The project at Cornford House, Tunbridge Wells was carried out in 2 phases on a design and build basis for Graham Care Limited. Phase 1 comprised construction of half of the building providing 31 luxury en suite bedrooms, kitchen, laundry, communal dining and social areas and all new incoming services. On completion of Phase 1 the existing home on site was decanted, the residents moved into the new building and the existing home demolished. Phase 2 work comprised the construction of the second half of the building which provided a further 50 bedrooms.
The building was constructed over four floors and as a result of planning restrictions had to be built to a very unusual footprint (as you will see from the photographs!).
We employed Carless Adams as Lead Designer on the project and the combination of facework, cladding, timber windows and plain clay tiles has produced a truly outstanding building.
The construction of the building comprised traditional brick and block to lower floors with a timber frame system utilised for upper floor and roof areas.
The project value was over £4m and despite exceptionally inclement weather encountered during the course of construction the whole project was completed on programme in a contract period of 80 weeks.
